First Meeting of Spring ‘23 Semester - Braving the Cold

Unfortunately, some dangerously cold weather swept through Ithaca today (Feb 3) so chess club did not meet. However, let’s reminisce on last week’s gathering in Upson Hall 216! *Please note: our location will change throughout the semester because of booked/unavailable rooms, so please stay updated by joining our discord (fill out the form) and following our official instagram.

We loved seeing all of you last week - hopefully you also enjoyed the more spacious layout as well :) We keep underestimating how many people show up, so it seems like we have to replenish our sets and be better prepared next time. There were lots of bughouse games, chaotic blitz and bullet chess, and chess variants such as duck chess and card game chess (?). Let the pictures speak for themselves!

There is no better way to start off the semester than to come to chess club! This year, we will continue our:

• educational lectures (either every Friday or every other Friday)

• highschool outreach sessions (in person at Ithaca high school, or online)

• Amateur Team East tournaments - four Cornell teams will compete against other teams on the east cost on February 17, 2023!

We plan on introducing or implementing more:

• blitz and bughouse tournaments, either for fun or with cash / chess merch prizes!

• simuls against our very own masters

• mentorship program where you get paired with a coach that you can learn from and practice against!
